Carbonate Reservoirs
Course overview
The course provides a detailed look at carbonate rocks and the sediments that make up these rocks, and examines concepts and models of diagenetic changes in carbonates.
The course is designed for:
Individuals in sedimentary geology and petroleum geology who are currently involved in development or exploration of carbonate reservoirs e.g. geologists, geophysicists, drilling engineers, reservoir engineers
Learning objectives
- Recognition of the main sedimentary structures and processes and ability to relate them to the original depositional environment
- Ability to recognize, from the available data of outcrops and well logs, the depositional architectures and to reconstruct the depositional scenarios in time and space
- Ability to reconstruct and correlate at small and large scale the sedimentary sequences
- Ability to extrapolate from the available data of outcrops (surficial analogous) the subsurface geology
- To link the acquired knowledge to exploration petroleum geology
